“Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my number, so call me, maybe?” would be one of the many songs that you hear people singing along to as they skate the night away at senior skate night.  Unfortunately, out of all the people that were there, most of them were from Calvary Chapel, not Costa Mesa High School.

Renae Andrade, a senior in ASB said, “I am so impressed, our class is so spirited, 25 people that’s more than we’ve ever had before.”

Looking out on the crowded skating rink it was clear that the senior class is far from spirited. Seven seniors showed up.

Mesa’s outcome on a good night is only about 25 students. Amy To said, “I’m not going because no one I really know is going and I don’t find skating amusing.”

The senior ASB representatives expected way more people to come. Renae Andrade said, “I’ve heard lots of conversations about it, we’ve upped our promotion level, we’ve been out mingling with the peasants of the school, were getting people that aren’t involved, involved.”

ASB also expected that people would be excited about dressing up, or even try to defy authority and dress up 80’s even though they were told not to.

Sarah Yuen, a senior who attended the event said, “I love dress up nights but I’m afraid my friend isn’t going to want to go all out with me.” So even though she wanted to go, she was concerned with who would be there, much like the rest of the senior class.

Even the people they expected to be there didn’t end up going to the event they helped plan. Renae Andrade said, “People that normally should be there or we expect to be there have not been there.”

Still, their goal for this year was to broaden their horizons, which they have done. There were people at this senior event that I don’t ever remember seeing at class events in the past.

Some could say that people were discouraged by the fact that they had to pay $10.50 to get in. But, Yassmeen Karimi proved that to be wrong when she said, “I am not planning to go because frankly I’ve been procrastinating on my Senior Exit and my mock presentation is on Tuesday so I have to prepare.”

Even though the class event was a flop, the small number of students that went enjoyed it. Chad Webster even said at the end of the night, “My knees hurt!” from the countless falls that he endured.
