The entire movie was shot from the perspective of a camera following the protagonists, but it failed in trying to keep up with horror movies that used the same technique, such as The Blair Witch Project. It also looked as if it was another attempt to make millions of dollars off a low budget film; which it was, but as it turns out, they used one million dollars on it. My only question, where were those million dollars; because as far as I’m concerned, I didn’t see any special effects other than blood or any stunts for that matter. There was no action scenes like in mission impossible which would require choreography, guns, blanks, stunt doubles, exploding cars or even the occasional torn up body. Although the way they made the eyes look on those possessed people was pretty fascinating but then again how expensive was it to make them look possessed. There were also many points in the story which weren’t shown or finished, such as how the guy in the upstairs room somehow managed to get the handgun off the officer and shot himself with it, or how a person who knew the protagonist’s name but had never seen her before is not shown again. How could they have ended such a good leadup?
The acting was average; I’d even be willing to give a C+ in high school standards. The problem with the acting wasn’t necessarily the actors, so much as that they couldn’t do much with the script they were given, and the stale plot wasn’t helping either. But at least you can tell they tried to do the best with what they could. But then again, perhaps it is because there have been too many attempts to bring out another big hit like The Exorcism that the whole genre has just been exhausted.
But perhaps what infuriates me the most is how the movie was ended. No worries, I won’t spoil the movie for you. Lets just say that it leaves you at a vital point. It’s like if you gave the signs to your friend that you wanted to high five him and when you were expecting his hand, he just ignored you; that’s how the movie made me feel, like I was left hanging. It also gives you a website in case you wish to know more about the events that the movie is based off, but as if I want to waste my time to go online to search for answers which in my opinion falls to the movie makers to show us in the film.
I wouldn’t recommend this to people unless they are just into watching exorcist films which are way too common these days. In short, the trailer gives it the appearance of a film which is great; but in reality, it isn’t.
