Senior Peter Marquez made the kick off to the start of the game. On the Seahawks third down senior Nathan Alvis took a noted play six minutes in. After the opposing team attempted a twenty yard pass, Alvis prevented that with an interception. With the ball on Mesa’s turf, junior Justin Smith made a ten yard down. On the next play Mesa fumbled the ball and was in the Seahawks possession.
Seahawks got a first down after a five yard penalty on the Mustangs. On the Seahawks second down sophomore Orende Crenshaw intercepted, but the refs paused the game with a penalty on the Mustangs. On the third down Mustangs got that interception. Finally on the fourth down senior Mario Smith carried the ball and scored the Mustangs the first touchdown of the night with two minutes left in the first quarter and a field goal barely past the cross bar.
The Mustangs kickoff for the start to the second quarter. Seahawks passed, fumbled, retrieved it, then a Seahawks player passed about 30 yards and Oceanview take their first touchdown. But at an attempted two-point field goal, the Mustangs block their kick.
A sudden play Crenshaw scored a touchdown with a successful field goal, which raised the score 14 Mustangs, 6 Seahawks.
Seahawks took the kickoff when Smith carried the ball on the second play and Seahawks block him. Smith raced to the end zone and got Mesa another touchdown but yet a failed field goal.
With some quick thinking on the Mustang side senior Jordan Walden ran ten to fifteen yards with the ball, dodged a Seahawks player, and was brought down at a near ten yards from the end zone. Mustang’s next play earned them a touchdown and good field goal. At the end of the third quarter the scoreboard read 24-27.
With some excitement on the Mustang side, Smith is able to run almost thirty yards and earned Mesa another touchdown, which made the new score up to 31-34.
Both teams were scrambling to get their last plays in the game. Mustangs blocked the Seahawks last chance at a touchdown. Seahawks went for a field goal and had just missed it by when the ball hit the cross bar. With about a minute left, the ball was in Mustang possession. As the Mustangs went for another play, the refs called the game at 35 seconds and the final score is 31-34. The Costa Mesa Mustangs take home another win making the total rank of the season three wins against one loss.
