The Mustangs went face to face this Tuesday against the Godinez Grizzlies at the Mesa home tennis courts. The match began with the ceremony of both teams introducing their players and shaking hands. As soon as this was over, both teams went back to their separate groups and made their chants. Girls on both sides fought out every point in a match that lasted three hours. This year’s Mustang contained many rookies, some of which who experienced their first match. Among those was Mahina Won-Milho, a sophomore, who claimed victory in two of her three sets. Yurika Joi, a senior, also claimed two victories out of three with a loss of her first set.
On the Double’s side, Jacky Dang and Lisa Vu delivered an undefeated streak against the opponents, while Ciara Rudas and Rachel Russell fought hard to secure two sets out of the three. After playing two sets with her partner Catherine Debbas, Rose Valenzuela began to feel ill and was substituted by Emily Timmons who came in and won the match. The game was close, considering the fact that if Emily Timmons and Catherine Debbas had not won the last set, the winner would have to be determined by games. After the close win, the girls’ team met up at Yogurtland to celebrate their victory.
