The League Cluster Meet took place on Wednesday at its annual home of Godinez high school. Here the boys Varsity Team brought their average time down to 16:45 and was only 4 places away from Laguna Beach. The girls team also saw a lot of improvement with multiple personal bests.
Lesley Diaz showed the strength of willpower when she hit the time that she said she would, 26 minutes. A foot surgery over the summer caused her to miss most of the workouts but she's already approaching her previous Personal Best and with half the season left to improve.
Later that week on Saturday the team drove out to Palos Verdes to try something new. A typical Cross Country race is three miles long, but the Palos Verdes invitational was only 2 miles long. Easy right? Only if you consider charging up a hill named "Agony" fun. The race was fast, dusty, and competitive but Mesa came out with six medals. Dakota Alford was among the medalist but he didn't walk away from the finish before puking a few times. He'd had a bit of trouble during the week's workout but that didn't stop him from tackling Agony Hill or taking 8th in his race
