15 years ago CMHS was known to be one of the cross country powerhouses of the league. The following years saw a lapse in competitive presence for CMHS. The team saw many coaches, countless athletes, and even athletes with the honors of going to individual CIF. Yet until the arrival of a new coach in 2010, the teams were lacking.
Coach Moreno worked patiently over the years to build up Mesa runners for the future, and that future may have arrived.

Through the efforts of Varsity runners: Dakota Alford, Brett Bermudez, Jorge Jeronimo, Anuare Magana, David Alcala, Tristan Padron, and Jason Baker, Mesa beat Laguna by 5 points.
Jorge and Anuare hold the 3rd and 4th spots on Varsity this season and this is they very first year in the sport. Jorge being a Senior and Anuare only a Sophomore. In only a few months they've incorporated running into their lifestyle, Jorge even deciding to have a 7 mile run on Halloween night after his race. But while Jorge's college career ends here, Anuare is eagerly looking forward to another two years to compete. Coach Steve Moreno has shown what he can do with athletes that are willing to put in the work and it may prove so again in the coming years.
