Susan Boyle first appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2009 where she completely blew the judges away (including Simon Cowell), by singing the challenging song, "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical, Les Miserables. Boyle did get second place, but her career certainly did not stop there. She produced her first album, I Dreamed a Dream, which was the fastest selling album and amounted to a total of 10 million albums sold. She released other albums over the years, and all together, 20 million albums were sold. Many students in choir were absolutely shocked when they heard they were going to be performing with such a huge singer.
Senior Melissa Folkerts said, "When I found out, I have to admit, I was really excited. I knew she was a beautiful singer, and I was just ecstatic to perform with her. It wasn't only for or to her. It was with her. It was as incredible as I expected it to be. Being able to be a part of something bigger than just myself for a full house was such a fulfilling experience." On top of all the music that choir already has to learn for their upcoming school concerts, four pieces of music had to be learned by the big day. These four songs were "Oh Happy Day", "You Raise Me Up", "Who I Was Born to Be", and "I Dreamed a Dream".
Mr. Haley thought, "The choir was amazing. The overall stage presence literally took my breath away as we watched the performance. The stage presence and powerful sound really made the night. The venue was outstanding and acoustics really made for a positive experience for the audience."
Mr. Lindfors, was also there the whole time, but instead, he was getting an up close side view since he was backstage. He proclaimed, "It was a great opportunity for our singers to work with professionals and see how such a concert is put together. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of us."
