Coming from a more traditional perspective, whenever I think of tacos, I think of having carne asada and al pastor. I don't think about having pork’s belly and duck in them.
If you’re looking for a different spin on tacos, try Taco Asylum. They specialize in non-traditional gourmet tacos and they are amazing. The 10 types of tacos are inspired and come from a variety of regions.
Apart from tacos, their sides can be called traditional, but with a touch of uniqueness. The rice is Israeli style, the beans have lentils, and their mixed green salad has orange-sherry vinaigrette. Don’t even get started on the chips, because that was my favorite thing apart from the tacos.
Whenever there are chips, there has to be salsa. Taco Asylum prepares an abundance of hot sauces that range from mild to super hot--depending on how daring you’re feeling. The honey-habanero was probably the most deceiving. It's sweet, then bam. My ears were burning.
The restaurant’s atmosphere was very cool and relaxing. The moody lighting added a very “at-home” feeling that made the experience all the better. To top it all off, the manager showed excellent customer service, always being attentive to what we needed.
