Mr. Olguin explained that independence will allow the Mavericks to find out who they truly are. Having their own domain will facilitate their growth and self-exploration. I agree as I remember high school trends bleeding through to the middle school and changing everyone as a whole. This separation may allow middle school students to have their own trends and establish their own "culture", in a sense without emulating the high school. Besides, when people hear Mustang, they immediately associate it with CMHS only. Because of the strong association, it's difficult for the mustang to represent the middle school as well. They need their own emblem to represent themselves without being overshadowed.
CMHS and CMMS are still connected and they always will be, but CMMS has a new identity. Changing from Mustangs to Mavericks may sound insignificant, but I see it as so much more. This change was not arbitrary, but deliberate. The Maverick is symbolic of the new CMMS and more importantly, CMMS only.
