Teachers had to turn in their student’s grades last Tuesday, October 4, and if anyone had below a C in any class, they will be sent into a mandatory tutorial class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students that have C’s or higher in all classes are going to be able to have designated areas to relax or catch up on any of their work. For the most part, these students have freedom for 35 minutes plus nutrition. Then, for the next four and a half weeks, no matter how much your grade may fluctuate, you will be stuck wherever you are. After those four and a half weeks, teachers will again turn in grades, and yet again students will be assigned to specific classes depending upon their grade.
This new tutorial was made to give the students that might be struggling, an opportunity to succeed and to give high achieving students a nice reward.
Teachers have various comments on the subject, for example, Mr. Poveda said “I love it,” and, “It is going to have an effect because if you want to see sunlight, and your friends, you’re going to get your grade up to a C.”
While Ms. Sheldon explained “I think it’s a great idea, people who don’t perform academically should be held accountable.”
Finally, Ms. Hays voiced “In theory it’s a good idea, I’m worried about how that theory will be put into practice. I think it will work for some, but not for others.”
This new system starts next week and hopefullyit will accomplish all that administration wants it to.
