The tennis matches were all full of energy and filled with the will to win. The skills of both sides were evened-out and minor flaws were what determined the outcome of the games.
Most of the girls seemed nervous as if they were performing a soliloquy on stage.
There were a few of our girls out there that were actually at the top of their game. Stephanie Rand, Catherine Debbas, Jen Melendez, and Rachel Russell, were a few of the players that were totally focused to win; only tripping with minor mistakes.
During one of the doubles matches with Stephanie and Jen playing, the score was 30-40 with Estancia in the lead. Then, Stephanie returned a well shot serve and later scored a point making the game tied with a deuce. Each team was gaining the advantage and going back to deuce because the opposing team would bring the score down again. This happened four times in a row then ended in a loss.
The ending match for Mesa and Estancia was a doubles match of Stephanie and Jen vs. the opposition. They played a very intense game; tying most of the matches with series of deuces. Stephanie was wielding the racket like a light saber while Jen was crouching and swaying to get pumped. The final score of the overall tennis matches was Mustangs 7 and Eagles 11.
In regards to the final match Stephanie responded with, “It was a good game”. These games will hopefully motivate the girls’ tennis team to practice harder and prepare for the upcoming matches.
